Is downloading MP3’s from file sharing programs safe?

A common question I get asked is if download Mp3’s from file sharing programs safe. Your answer to this is absolutely not! It so harmful, and if you don’t have the proper protection, you are probably infected as you read this! Most file sharing programs come with bundled software, or crapware, that fills your computer with extra crap that came bundled with the program that you did not know about.

Popular programs such as Bearshare, Limewire, Kazza, etc. all come with crapware and bundled software. It just isn’t worth risking it, since there are so many antispyware programs out there that will protect you from this.

There are many tricks that the malware distributors use in order to get you their junk on your computer. For example, some antispyware programs cannot scan files that contain parentheses or brackets. So they may do song names as the following format:

songname[1].mp3
songname(1).mp3

Both of the above song names would be skipped by some antispyware scanners. No need to worry though, we have reviewed the top antispyware programs to bring you antispyware programs that DO SCAN files with parentheses and brackets.

What is a browser hijacker?

A browser hijacker, also known as a hijackware, is a type of malware that will modify your web browsers home page, search pages, errors pages, and more with their own. This is used to trick and deceive you into thinking something is wrong with your computer.

A common browser hijacker trick is to hijack your error pages to make it seem like you are actually infected with a virus. Your browser will then ask you if you’d like to purchase “so-and-so” antivirus program to remove this. In reality, your computer is not infected with a virus, it is actually just infected with a browser hijacker that may be tricking you into buying their own product that you don’t even need.

Different browser hijackers may actually not modify any pages at all. Instead, you will receive random pop ups when you aren’t even surfing the web. This can substantially decrease the speed of your computer and cause major headaches. No, pop up blockers do not stop pop ups triggered by browser hijackers.

If you are wondering if you are infected with a browser hijacker, we have spent thousands of dollars to bring you the top antispyware programs that will scan and remove all traces of browser hijackers. Please view our list of antispyware program reviews.
